The idea seemed so easy. Grow veggies, redo the house, use less, make more from scratch (which is also needed for my health), etc. But this weird thing called life keeps interfering.
For instance, a simple project: Build or Buy a dog kennel to keep the poop factor controlled and for the dogs to hang around in to enjoy the outdoors. Easy enough, right? After careful research, I decided buying one would be more cost effective in the long run. Cedar would be expensive, and pressure-treated is totally ignored by the massive amount of Carpenter Ants that seem to love our trees and deck.
Our Boxer doesn't need one. He is very well-behaved, doesn't take off, comes when called no matter what the distraction is, has no prey drive, stays out of the plants, etc. My daughter's Husky, on the other hand, is a world unto herself. She comes when she feels like it (or she realizes we're getting fairly ticked off), has a small prey drive, has the attention span of a goldfish if something bores her, and will take off without warning. Basically, she is a Husky.
She loves to be outside, but I don't like leaving her unsupervised on the 25 foot cable we hook them to for bathroom visits, and I can't stand there for an hour or more while she hangs out unless I'm actually working in the yard.
Anyhow, the goal is to buy a kennel...3 weeks ago. Yes, it has been 3 weeks since the decision, and I haven't been able to get to the store. I'm barely finding time to do fast trips to the food stores. Unexpected things keep cropping up. I plan to go buy the kennel, wake up and find my daughter in tears due to a bad tooth. Call the dentist and the only appointment ensures I won't have enough time to do anything before or after it.
I planned on going tomorrow. The "kid" car's Check Engine light lit up today. Usually that means someone forgot to tighten the gas cap after a fill-up. However, the cap seems to be on correctly, all fluid levels are fine, and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. My daughter works tomorrow. She has to drive an hour away to her job. No way is she taking that car without knowing what is wrong with it. She has to take my minivan. That means I don't have a car.
I believe everything happens for a reason. If I am delayed buying the kennel, there is a reason and it will happen when it is supposed to. However, it is still frustrating.
