Or, in my case, Attack of the Killer Blight. One plant is dead. The second one is going. I was only able to harvest 3 tomatoes off the blighted plant. I've gotten 6 off the other one. Unfortunately, the growing season here is coming to a close.
What I did learn is that to have enough sunlight, I need to constantly move the plants around to keep them in the sun that they need. There are too many trees to have a good garden. I just don't get enough light. I'm not quite sure what to do about it other than cut the trees. The problem is most are very tall, so I'd have to hire people. I don't have the money for that.
I'm turning my attention to cleaning the basement out and getting someone in to inspect the chimney. It's much later than I wanted, but a lot of family drama/illnesses happened over the summer and it kept me from doing much. Since the gardening failed, I'm thinking about purchasing a small amount of land or selling this house and finding one better suited for what I want.
In the meantime, I need to keep some food in stock for power outages and emergencies. My sons and I have also discussed taking up hunting. My daughter and I can't eat most of the meat sold in markets, but we know we don't react to things like wild deer. I'm still trying to find a local farmer for meat and soy-free eggs.
